Phyllis Beard is a noted artist whose work is featured in the prestigious Butler Institute of American Art’s permanent collection. Her original drawings, paintings and bronze works are also prized by private collectors. At her son’s wedding at the U.S. Naval Academy chapel, the interest generated by her daughter-in-law’s brooch bouquet inspired the launch of “My Crystal Keepsake.” While other brooch artists exist, none can match Phyllis’s pedigree.
Brooch bouquets are nothing new, in fact they date back to the days of Marie Antoinette. Phyllis is raising the bar on brooch bouquet design and redefining the elegance and enchantment of days gone by.
Butler Permanent Collection
Phyllis’s first solo exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, So Great A Cloud of Witnesses, comprised 40 drawings of 20th Century inspirational figures, such as Mother Teresa and C.S. Lewis.
The new series of work that makes up the “Just Outside My Door” exhibition is a commemoration of many of the things the artist holds dear – friends, family, and scenes from her daily life.
One particular work in this exhibition, Shechina Glory, inaugurates the artist’s forthcoming series of paintings, which will focus on biblical scenes from both the Old and New Testaments.
